About Hardwood Flooring and Micro-Bevel Edges
In choosing your new hardwood flooring you will encounter products described as "Flat Edge", "Square Edge" and "Micro-Bevel" or the more cryptic MB-2 and MB-4. This refers to the edges of the boards themselves and the seam between boards as they lie flat in your floor.
Flat Edge, Square Edge or No Bevel (bevel: None), refers to boards that are milled to press flush against one another completely. Nearly all older hardwood flooring was milled this way which may be a consideration if you want to match the look of other rooms in your home.
MB-2 or Micro Bevel (2 sides), refers to a fine milled edge that runs down the long sides of each board. The ends of the boards do not have this edge and fit together just as Flat edge boards do.
MB-4 or Micro Bevel (4 sides), refers to a fine milled edge on all 4 sides of each board.
