New Heart Pine, with a Janka Hardness Scale score of 1280, is a wood that can take the beating of general daily use in your home. Its rating falls right under Red Oak, the industry standard in determining the relative ability of hardwoods to resist indentations. It's just as solid.

The appearance of New Heart Pine is light in color, ranging in tones from tan or golden brown to reddish brown. The wood does darken with age and can deepen to a rich, dark red hue. This wood can also contain dark knots throughout, adding a contrasting rustic quality to the lighter boards.

New Heart Pine is also easy to clean. To remove dirt, dust and debris, use a cloth mop, broom or vacuum. About once a week, for heavier cleaning, use a damp cloth mop, but be careful not to saturate the floor with water; you don't want them warping.
